It’s really not that great of a joke.

Update 2: I’m not 100% sure this didn’t break the front end of P2.. have to look back
Updated: There’s a way to do this!
So, after writing this post and then using o2 for a few weeks, there is a way to enable markdown on the project management software for WordPress.
In order to do this, you will simply need to install the JetPack Plugin, and activate the Markdown module.
Here’s how you can do that from the command line, for you CLI enthusiasts out there.
wp plugin install jetpack --activate wp jetpack module markdown activate
Viola! You now have Markdown enabled on o2.
O2 by Automattic is their in-house project management solution that is used to network their various virtual employees. Being a completely distributed team can be challenging, and there are paid solutions such as Basecamp for example. The great thing about Oxygen (O2) is that it can be installed on any web server (I have not tested this theme on a Windows server..). O2 is a plugin, not a paid “Software-as-a-Service”
O2 does have a few caveats, mainly that the theme does not currently support Multisite on self hosted installs, which is kinda a bummer.. and they do offer the following disclaimer:
If you’re wondering why these aren’t appearing in the WordPress.org plugin and theme repositories, it’s because these are very rough releases. We don’t suggest using O2 on a production website, unless you know what you’re doing, and you’re willing to get your hands dirty debugging, tweaking, and optimizing to your specific environment.
Another caveat being the lack of development or community support, for example, not having Markdown syntax as an option. Markdown allows users to quickly create content such as headings, paragraph text, and list items with very minimal extra work
Update: Markdown is supported, via the snippet above, but enabling it may have broken the AJAX frontend.
From my experience, there are features in the O2 theme I have not been able to get working correctly, such as their tagging feature where you can tag other users (similar to Facebook). There may be a php library that I am missing for this to work correctly, but, for a free solution, O2 is pretty cool. It does offer a notification feature similar to Facebook, and you can use WordPress taxonomy and widgets in a creative way to use O2 as your Project Management solution of choice. If you are interested to hear more about O2 (or “Oxygen” + P2) – the WordPress theme for Project Management, leave your questions or comments in the section below.
In the newest WooCommerce update, they have released a feature set that allows store managers to import products into their online store by uploading a comma-delimited (.csv) file. This is huge for WooCommerce power users, before there was a combination of plugins that it took to achieve this functionality (which is the reason I had not yet implemented this into a store.)
Big shoutout to Automattic for realizing the need for this!
Here are some WordPress websites I have designed and developed over the years.
